Even then they might still have demodex IMO!

Cost of diagnosis to practice? 50p - few slides, a scalpel blade and a few drops of liquid paraffin.

Maybe an impression smear will help?
I hope it isn't - I'm sure my dog wasn't pruritic until the ulcers got infected

I maybe way off the mark-I'm using my phone to look at the pictures!

Re: ulcerated staffie

[quote user="Utlendigur"]
[quote user="Neil Wheadon"]Staffie, feet, non itchy, have you scraped for demodex yet?

I would also give her a good 2-3 weeks minimum of cephalexin 20-30mg/kg bid. Infection is itchy and common, usually secondary to self trauma. I'm not a fan if clindamycin for skins but I know others disagree

Re: ulcerated staffie

[quote user="Neil Wheadon"]Staffie, feet, non itchy, have you scraped for demodex yet?

Eurax lotion or oint has a very good antipruritic action and kills mites [great for scabies on ear pinna] so she'll get some relief from the itch.

Re: ulcerated staffie

Update on ulcerated staffie-

Apparently the problem started after she was in season, a young dog tried to mate her and she KILLED it!! Yikes and she's very placid with us. Anyhow after a week of no UV light she has improved dramatically. I thought she was non pruritic but has been chewing her vulva, so she now has a buster collar on. We've also started to apply surolan. She's on no other meds.
