Traditionally we try to pitch the CPD at Cert level and have generally good attendance but some

Re: What surgical CPD do people want?
I am not even convinced that it is a surgical disease.
If it is, it must surely be in the experimental phase.

If surgical "treatment" of "elbow dysplasia" was a drug then it would be a long way from being approved... there's probably as much evidence in favour of all sorts of wacky/improbable nutritional supplements as positive treatments as there is surgical intervention

I guess it's hard to do a placebo (sham-surgery) when it comes to surgical intervention, but perhaps it's not necessary - simply comparison with an alternative novel-sounding treatment to replace the surgical part would do a reasonable job?

I don't think we have to measure really fancy outcomes - if the owner doesn't note a difference consistently compared to placebo then the benefit can't be that high in the short-term anyway?

Re: What surgical CPD do people want?
Elbow dysplasia. I find the whole subject from the terminology to the different types of surgery really confusing!
Bitch caesers are easy compared to a bitch spay. Try doing a wild 18m/o Belgian blue heifer by torchlight with a 80 year old assistant.........

Chest drains easy.

GDV less so.

If I was looking for surgical CPD it would be more looking at reconstructions, axial pattern flaps etc.

Re: What surgical CPD do people want?

The young vets always want help with gdv ops and placing chest drains and bitch caesarians.

Re: What surgical CPD do people want?

Systematic approach to an ex-lap, perhaps.
