When she gets up out of bed she urinates, and dribbles after urinating on walks. NAD on CE, temp normal.
Possibly, my cytology skills aren't fantastic (hence the practice), but I saw some epithelial cells as well and they looked different to what I thought were plasma cells? Limited books with pictures to look at too.

My colleague that is good with cytology is going to have a look at the slides tomorrow so she'll probably agree with you!

[/quote]

You get quite a lot of variation in epithelial cells when there's cystitis ongoing - I remember when I started out years ago thinking every case with binucleation was a possible transitional cell carcinoma.... (they weren't!)

You spotted the rods - that's the biggie to me and I'd do fresh inhouse sediment in a week's time if you're in any doubt (or wanting to learn more from the case) and see the defference ur abs have made.

Re: Urine Sediment Cytology

Possibly, my cytology skills aren't fantastic (hence the practice), but I saw some epithelial cells as well and they looked different to what I thought were plasma cells?
I'm not questioning your sediment interpretation... well actually I am I suppose... but I'm doubting platelet clumps and large lymphoblasts...

Common things are common.

If you have large numbers of rods in a freshly collected and examined specimen then that's hard to confuse with anything else and is entirely consistent with a bacterial UTI in a symptomatic patient.

So given that... I'm guessing that the large lymphblasts are epithelial cells and platelet clumps are cellcular casts.

If you put a digital camera up to the microscope we can play a game before the idexx report comes back
