we are finding it inefficient not having a dental xn-ray head though and will be gettinh one shortly when we find tge right second hand unit.

I think was the one they showed me, Glenn, and I did like the look of it. Space not such an issue as we have a seperate Xray room and there will be space when the old developer goes! I think it will be easy enough to attach images from a jpeg, as we already scan and attach all our lab results etc. I' not quite sure we do a large enough volume of xrays to justify it, but it will be my Christmas present to myself (and my nurses!)

surely every system can spit out a jpeg that surely every decent PMS can import?

We needed to get conversion software then network the computer to all the others and still need to manually move files and upload them for each patient. This was something I didn't expect to need to do separately - I maintain I am a technophobe!!

I am massively technophobic I'm afraid. I miss those nice pieces of xray film I could carry round. The only recommendation I have is having a system that allows you to upload the radiographs to your consult room computer/client file so you can still show clients the images and not have to walk them through to the xray room in the practice!

The Carestream CR is good but dependent on the software. Examion from Burtons I found much better than the BCF software. On special at the moment so frustratingly much less than I paid 18 months ago. Only £8K!! Includes the PAC system as well.

Thanks guys- very useful! having made the decision to go digital there is the temptation just to get something without doing the proper research! I had some info fro a company called ?Nemesis that I met at LVS- anyone know anything about them?

We have one of these, great quality pictures, only problem we have is scratching the screens however careful we are and we've had lot of training from company as we complained about the problem. Did trial a self loading one but the picture quality was no where near. Also got little gadget which let's us do dental X-ray too.

You're a smallish single-vet practice, aren't you Julie?

Get thissen a CR35V. That's the one that looks like a cylinder in a doughnut. They have come way way DOWN in price and will do all sizes of "film", from huge down to dental no.1. You have to open the cassette yourself whereas the horribly expensive posh systems open the cassette for you – big deal.

The software that came with mine is a bit clunky (and is Windows-only ). I'll bet the software you get now will be miles better.

It doesn't need servicing every year, whatever the dealers tell you. Just now and then.

Teach the staff how to work it, make them take care with the sensors ("films"). Keep a dust cover on it.
