I've never used one before so I'm hoping some of you who have can give me a bit of advice.
Does anyone have some kind of guide of how to get the best out of a capnograph, understanding what the different

Re: Capnographs

The Datex machines are brilliant.
Yes, I have found the In Practice article from 2006.

Re: Capnographs

No they don't.

The vet direct links don't seem to work. They are just giving me adverts.

Re: Capnographs

The moisture trap just picks up condensation. I disconnect the tubing and leave it somewhere warm overnight.

Spares not too expensive

http://www.freelance-veterinary.co.uk/veterinary-equipment/product/water-trap-datex

If you (or your nurses) take care that the sampling line comes out the top of the connector you get a load less moisture in there.

Vet-Direct do list them now. I have a lot in stock! This and this will achieve what you need.

Re: Capnographs

It's a datex capnomac ultima which also measures anaesthetic gases. It's also an older 'boxy' style. I've found comments about it saying that is versatile and can be used for adults as well as paediatric patients. So I'm hoping it will be suitable for the small patients.

I've seen that vet direct do some tubing and connector for not very much but they are CapnoTrue. Does that matter?

There is a moisture trap on the machine already. Does that need to be changed periodically or is it ok to keep reusing it so long as it is emptied each time?

Re: Capnographs

[quote user="CatherineThomas"]Does anyone have some kind of guide of how to get the best out of a capnograph, understanding what the different shapes of traces mean etc?
Ours in an older 'boxy' style Datex machine that also measured pulse ox.

You need a narrow bore tube with male/male ends. You can get a standard syringe driver extension from your wholesaler and a sex changer. You then need the connector that fits between the ET connector and the circuit.

I looked at various options and the cheapest set up I could find was via Burtons. You need to buy them in 10's but they go on for ages. The male/male tubes are a good length and less likely to kink than the syringe driver extensions.

The moisture trap on the front of the machine needs to be a proper Datex jobbie.

Not perfect but for animals on the T piece I attach the male leuer connector to the port on the elbow so as not to increase dead space.

Re: Capnographs

Thanks!
