Has anyone seen a case in a vaccinated dog. Do we need to be considering using the L4 vaccine these days?

We asked about an L4 vax and MSD's marketing showing the extra chunk of bratislava and copenhageni cases on top of icteroharmorrhagiae and canicola. She said that this information was not species - specific.....(ie wasn't info collected from rising titres in clinically affected dogs and the serovars causing clinical disease in dogs in Europe didn't account for the same percentage of cases as those particular serovars do here....I think...we were meant to be discussing something else so I didn't have time to get it all completely straight).

At the time I was told that even if she had been vaccinated (with L2), there is very little, possibly no cross-protection to other serovars, so she would still have contracted the disease.

We have just switched to the L4 vaccination and have had good uptake from clients at present.

Re: Leptospira serovar Bratislava

Zoetis apparently have a tetravalent vaccine in Europe so presumably could bring it across to the UK if considered valuable. perhaps worth having a quick chat with one of their vets to find out why they are not marketing it in the UK.

MSD seem to have a convincing argument why we should use it, Zoetis an argument why it is not a pressing issue.

Nice to get two or more views before committing yourself to a change. We are holding fire at present.

A very eminent medicine specialist I talked to suggested other weaknesses in lepto protection are perhaps more relevant.

i.e. Don't have a clue if we should change!!

Re: Leptospira serovar Bratislava

Thinking of changing vaccine brand , consensus here is money saving by msd one lepto for whole of Europe and increase use of nobivac kc./ pi3.
[/quote]Maybe you should change that to 'never knowingly seen lepto for over 12 years'. How do you know unless you test every sick dog?
