I want to get an expert opinion on dog nutrition. As a vet I would consider my opinion relevant but not expert on dietary requirements related to diseases, either relating to deficiencies, imbalances or diet implications in sick animals. [/quote] I think you could argue that after many (in my case 38) years observing animals fed on on every conceivable dietary variation and the diseases and manifestations that result therefrom, that we are very much experts, probably more so than those who set up and observe limited trials which are only to suit there own agenda. Don't underestimate yourself Mariette, your years in practice have given you a wealth of knowledge that is invaluable and although anecdotal would be impossible to achieve in short time in controlled trials.

Re: Final Year Research Project - Win 1 of 2 £100 Amazon Vouchers!

You could argue we offer a professional opinion rather than an expert one (unless there any veterinary nutritional specialists around).

Re: Final Year Research Project - Win 1 of 2 £100 Amazon Vouchers!

The OP wanted "an expert opinion" on dog nutrition. I wondered if that was a bit "tongue in cheek". As a vet I would consider my opinion relevant but not expert on dietary requirements related to diseases, either relating to deficiencies, imbalances or diet implications in sick animals. But I am not an expert nutritionist by any means at all. I do not pretend or want to be considered an expert to advise my clients on what to feed their pets as long as it is not something that obviously makes them sick or sicker. So I usually skip any comment on the thousands of special diets for special breeds and life stages. I may be wrong but pets have evolved on eating scraps from the table and mice and rats etc in case of cats, and I usually feel that most dogs and casts do well on a variety of diets, which day to day observation by the owners should be good enough to form an opinion on. And for me this includes the range from cheapest commercial food , through home made food to RMB diets. If certain pets have sensitive guts or skins, get obese or are of the giant fast growing variety diets become more of an issue and I can come in with my vet side of knowledge.

So in this sense I am not sure what the OP is going to get out of the survey. Maybe before trying to find "expert opinion" it would have been better to test first how "expert" these opinions and advises really are?

(Did not mean any offense to anybody here!)
