Rather an odd request I'm afraid..
A VN ex colleague of mine has just phoned to say a friend of hers running the ACE animal charity in Cairo has been handed in a paralysed 8 month old kitten which was found in the gutter of a busy road.
You have to mean it. Did we not all knock a couple of lambs over the head during lambing placements? But is pain the only sensation to consider? I would argue that pain is actually far easier to bear than fear and emotional distress. Such as having being paralysed at the hands of a stranger - particularly if partially feral (an assumption)

Re: Egypt and cat requiring euthanasia

Your friend has a duty to ensure the animal does not suffer unnecessarily during euthanasia. A botched euthanasia would be traumatic for her as well as the kitten.

If the cat is not in marked pain I would suggest it is nursed until a vet is available to euthanase it humanely.

The idea of poisoning an animal with glycol or freezing it to death is, frankly, abhorrent. I am deeply disturbed a member of our profession has suggested this.

Not an easy situation and your friend has my sympathies....

Re: Egypt and cat requiring euthanasia

If it has no deep pain at all it may not be in pain and if it's bladder is expressed a couple of times a day could it be kept comfy till Saturday?

Re: Egypt and cat requiring euthanasia

For gods sake dont freeze it.
CO2 is still used for stunning pigs for slaughter.

If not prepared to knock the cat over the head, how about placing it under the cars wheel as driven forward. (I aim for myxi bunnies).

The simplest is exhaust gas.

I thought with what I have seen on the news that another gunshot might not be noticed.

I'd also use a humane killer if it was all I had to hand, despite it not been recommended.

Re: Egypt and cat requiring euthanasia

Agreed, Egypt not the best place to be firing guns.
