Urinary issues have been ruled out and she responds well to amitriptiline, the problem is administration. She's a very difficult cat to adm tablets

Re: Alternative to amitriptiline for cats?

[quote user="Hannah Wynne Richards"]

Have you checked for hyperthyroidism? If thyroids normal, have you tried nutraceuticals-Kalm Aid comes as a gel, which can be smeared on paws.

I find Kalmaid very good for stressy cats or those that suffer from FLUTD. I've had more success with zylkene in dogs tbh. However, sometimes you do need something a little more powerful.

Has there been any pain focus at all, what are the cat's teeth like? A sore mouth could cause behaviour changes.

Probably no better, but http://www.svprx.co.uk/ might do a palatable version (i've not checked)

Otherwise i've had some success in individual cats with zylkene capsules opened and sprinkled over food.

Re: Alternative to amitriptiline for cats?

No changes wahtsoever in environment/food/etc. Hyperthyroidism has been ruled out.

Re: Alternative to amitriptiline for cats?

Also ask about background; any new members of family, new pets, new neighbors, change in feeding habits/schedule, change in food, etc.

Re: Alternative to amitriptiline for cats?

You could also crush the tablet into marmite, hard to spit that out and the marmite covers any taste.
