I think beating anything from a cat's nose or indeed beating a cat in any way to get anything from any part of its body, or for any reason for that matter, is cruel

A couple that that stick in my mind: 1. The gent who was self-gratifying with a vacuum cleaner - but instead of inserting his member into the end of the hose (as most sensible people would), instead put it directly into the body of the machine where the hose attaches - not realising that there was a high speed rotating fan blade just within the opening. 2. The bloke who put his into the water outlet/overflow pipe of a hotel swimming pool - thus creating a strong vacuum, so that he became well and truly stuck. They had to switch off the swimming pool pumps to release him.

This one has just reminded me of a phone call I received around midnight a couple of years ago, owners a bit concerned, cat's eye seemed a bit sore, what should they do? They didn't seem overly interested in having the cat seen, and I almost told them to bathe the eye and I'd see it the next morning, but then thought, no it's an eye, I ought to see it.
