Xylazine 0.3-0.4mg/kg/im

Local (0.5% diluted saline 1:3)

0.1ml per site - cornual nerve and medial canthus of eye

Reversed with Atipamezole 25-50microg/kg/iv

I think I have the micro and milligrams the right way round! If you're injecting 10ml of xylazine then I haven't!

I can recall a couple of kids in fatal convulsions, a long time ago when we didn't really know much.

Re: Disbudding of kids.

I haven't done any in practice but couple of years ago at uni they used xylazine IM, reversed with atipamazole and used diluted down local (as goats are very sensistive to locals) given similar to that as calves. Seemed to work very well.

It would be worth researching the dose of xylazine as I remember they are also very sensistive and require a tiny dose (again Langford used it diluted down with sterile water).

Re: Disbudding of kids.

We mask ours with Isofluorane now.

I used to use just local and never had any problems.

When I was last in a practice where kids were disbudded, the best method of what was available was generally considered to be halothane by mask (isoflurane wasn't available then). Others I believe used xylazine.

That was a long time ago.
