Don't do thyroidectomies either in case you might actually cure the problem?

Re: Y/D is working yippee!

I've started 3 cases on it. 2 have measured euthyroid at 3 and 6 months, and the thirs at 12 months too. Very impressed so far.

As an aside, I worked in one practice that would not allow vets to prescribe it! they claimed they could make more revenue from medications.

Re: Y/D is working yippee!

I've used y/d on 5 cases now. One... well, owner compliance with anything was impossible, and the cat "didn't" like the food after trying it for a day or two, so that didn't work out.

Ignoring that though, 4/4 are (were) within normal limits for T4, so very pleased with it! Did have to euthanase one which developed HCM signs a few months later though.

Re: Y/D is working yippee!

The two cats I look after that will actually eat the stuff, are doing well. I'm not sure how much of this is a true palatability issue, and how much is due to owner attitudes however. I expect hyperthyroid cats to eat well - very well - and am rather suspicious when a client says they won't eat YD....especially in the first couple of weeks.

My most successful one is a 22 year old cat that was on 25mg of vidalta a day,l with poor control AND some horrible side effects - constant diarrhoea, and itchy face - and now she is on YD she is less hyperthyroid and has NO side effects. she's also 22 - so the owner is delighted that cat is happy and there is much less diarrhoea to worry about. and cost wise, the YD is cheaper than the meds and coping with side effects.

Re: Y/D is working yippee!

Me too Martin, have had two brilliant success stories with owners sooooooooo grateful that cat did not need bloods and horrible pills anymore because became fully atable on Y/D.
