But, aha, that "4.3 to 7.5 seconds" is the time after your nurse has retrieved the sensor from the mouth, disinfected it, inserted it into the machine.....

Re: CR digital dental radiography
you get your images more quickly.
I just find the DR much handier for what one might rather pompously term intra-operative radiographs. Obviously it takes at least two images to see the whole length of the dog's canine tooth, but then most of the time I'm only interested in one end of it. The bulkiness of the sensor is not quite such a handicap as you might think, once you get used to it.

I admit I have the luxury of both DR and CR and quite often have both on the go. The size 4 sensor for the CR gets a great deal of use. The CR sensors are flexible of course, almost flimsy, and for intra-oral views I always back them with thick cardboard. That keeps them flat and also helps to hold them in position for the exposure.

We save all the backing cardboard from the pads of consent forms. Cut a piece to size, twice the size of the sensor, and fold it double. The folding gives it a slight wedginess, which is handy.

Re: CR digital dental radiography

I have used DR, and find the sensors very bulky (particularly in very small mouths), and you can't have anything larger than a size 2, which isn't great for large canines, rabbits etc. I also suspect that the sensor is the most vulnerable part, and damaging a DR sensor will be costly.

Re: CR digital dental radiography

If you want CR, in my opinion the CR35v is what you want 'cos it does all sizes sensor so you don't need anything else for all your practice Xrays.

However for specifically dental I'd strongly suggest you consider DR. The packages are not prohibitively expensive (I suppose because the sensors are small and the thing doesn't have to be versatile) and you get your images more quickly.

Definitely demand a free trial though.

Re: CR digital dental radiography

No, that IS helpful!

I guess the important thing is to try before you buy.

Re: CR digital dental radiography

A lot of them turn out to actually be the same one with a different badge.

The software is getting better all the time. (O the hell of being an early adopter! )

Make sure you see the software in action and that you like it. Sometimes the image acquisition/manipulation bit is fine but the database bit is dreadful.

There's no reason why you shouldn't get your sensors from one source, your imput device from another, your image acquisition software from another and your database software from yet another, but the dealers won't help you to do that – they want to sell you a package.

Sorry, that wasn't really much help was it?
