Gah- I know removal may be the eventual answer, but want to say nah-nah-nah-nah, I can't hear you!!

Might try the protexin pro fibre in the meantime- thanks James!

How frequently have they been emptied? I had very good results in one dog (anecdote alert!) by adding protexin pro fibre in the diet and the problem all but went away - clients had been all but booked for surgery. Could be worth a try at least.

Sensitivity almost irrelevant if you instilled ABS into the sac. I too would remove.

Did think of doing culture and sensitivity, but in the past I've found that antibiotics which should work just don't seem to get to the anal glands, somehow. Although possibly if I could find a topical medication the bugs were sensitive to...

I know removal might end up the answer, but she is 13, and I fear it would be one of the horrible ops you mentioned . Just really looking for that magic wand solution!

Sorry my advice is remove them. I have faffed with stubborn anal sacs many times. Always had to remove them always wondered why I hadn't done it sooner. Done early simple quick straight forward op - if left it becomes horrible. These days I just get on with it. Immense relief for the dog, less medication, fewer antibiotics. Cheaper in the long run. I use latex and find it easier, others prefer not to.
