10 year old terrier with IMHA, no underlying cause been found on imaging. Poor response initially, oxyglobin used which unfortunately caused vomiting which may not have helped situation.. Is she on any gastroprotectants - perhaps she has some GI ulceration.

usually the appetite does improve with PCV but would agree a feeding tube would be a good plan otherwise

Re: Anorexia in IMHA dog - what to do?!

Sorry! Approx 1.5mg/KG pred! She's now just under 7kg and she's on 10mg BID.

Re: Anorexia in IMHA dog - what to do?!

Sounds like not much fun. Did you exclude all other factors during the initial work-up - are you sure there aren't other pathologies/tumours that may have led to the IMHA in the first place? Just in case there's something else rumbling on in the background...

Also, a starving animal needs nutrition. You've done well so far getting the Hct to 24% - I would bite the bullet and do a quick GA to place an oesophageal feeding tube. It doesn't take long and can be a light GA. Explain the risks. Small chance of adverse event under GA but then definitely able to get food into the dog versus not doing GA and maybe struggling to feed the wee soul for days/weeks.

I don't think there's a perfect solution and obviously depends on the owner's thoughts too. Sorry I can't be of more help!

Re: Anorexia in IMHA dog - what to do?!

1.5mg pred?
