11yr old FN pointer, presented to my colleague for regular cartrophen inj about 6 weeks ago but noticed she had a hazy appearance to her left eye

Re: Non-healing cloudy eye

I would say the ulcer never fully healled. It sounds like an indolent ulcer which needs debriding +/- grid/punctate keratotomy. The growth on the eyelid may be too minor to cause an ulcer but may be contributing to the ulcer not healling so maybe consider removing this as part of a treatment plan. Also consider contact lenses or similar to protect the ulcer from the eyelid mass.

Re: Non-healing cloudy eye

Thanks for the replies :)

I did actually put her on chloramphenicol QID when I saw her yesterday but hadn't considered oral tetracycline. A grid keratotomy would be on the cards if not healing well within the week.

Didn't check tear production though no discharge and eye appears bright enough, just cloudy.

Re: Non-healing cloudy eye

Have you checked tear production? Not the right breed but I've seen two non-healing superficial ulcers with dry eye.

Re: Non-healing cloudy eye

Is she on any topical treatment now? As it's been present a while I would go for chloramphenicol drops at least 4 times a day, and oral oxytetracycline. In my (albeit very short) experience, ulcers that have hung around usually clear up well with this.

As the ulcer has enlarged it could be an idea to to a grid keratotomy, start from scratch with the healing?

Re: Non-healing cloudy eye

Sounds like corneal oedema.

I think that could be due to a non-healing ulcer (sometimes referred to as SCCED).

Could also be due to corneal epithelial dystrophy I guess.

As you say IOP wouid help rule out glaucoma and uveitis if doubt remains.
