I think the groomer simply missed the infection rather than caused the problem. The owner was pretty upset that the infection was missed but I'm not sure that the groomer missing it made the situation any worse. The groomer has lost a client from this, but if they hadn't done the glands anyway the dog would have had the same outcome.

Re: Advice for a dog groomer

Thank you for the replies - have had a google and found some useful info for her.

Re: Advice for a dog groomer
I thought plucking hairs down the ear was thought of to be bad practice as the trauma causes irritation and swelling
If the dog has never had excess wax accumulation or OE I'd question the benefit, likewise I'd suggest they find plucking sore if done while the canal is inflamed, but in cases of recurrent OE in hairy eared dogs, improving the ventilation to the canal seems to help.

Can't see anyone causing a problem.

I thought plucking hairs down the ear was thought of to be bad practice as the trauma causes irritation and swelling. I used to pluck, but no longer do so.

How about supplying them with some chlorhexadine shampoo for stripped dogs?
