One of the receptionist's chickens has a prolapse (sorry, no more information than that as I have not seen the bird yet). The receptionist does not want to spend much money on it. Any ideas? I'm due to see her in 30 minutes so may have more information

Re: chicken with prolapse

Thanks Mark.

The owner did not consent to GA so I tried digital manipulation - and failed first time. Sent chicken home with baytril PO and calcium for IM inj (had an injection of metacam and of oxytocin). Tried manipulation again 2 days later and managed to retrieve a collapsed, coarse-looking egg! The owner has been diligently and slowing cleaning the prolapse and it is reducing. So 'Monty' is doing well!

Thanks again.

Cover with abs (in case there is a laceration of the shell gland), sq fluids and im calcium (100mg/kg bid). It may well stop straining if the egg is gone

It is able to defecate to the side of the prolapse. Digital palpation through the centre of the prolapsed tissue suggests there is an egg stuck- I can feel it with the tip of my index finger. How does one remove the egg? Please help.
