I seem to remember that there is someone out there with a passion for all things oto.
I currently use a mechano like set up based around a 3 way tap and a urinary catheter. Each time I use it I

Re: Ear flushing Kit
You are supposed to flush the ears out well with saline after using the otoprof to remove any residual cleaner,
I've just read the instructions and is says rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly.
I'm interested now in this Otoprof stuff, having never heard of it. Just had a shufty at the website - there's talk of sedation and the like, is this what people are doing or is it possible to use conscious in most patients? (we spend a fair amount on flushing cats' ears under GA for mites)
I still tend to do mine under sedation with a bit of torb & dom but that is often because they are in for something else or the very fact that they have sh1te ears in the first pace is because they're difficult to treat conscious or simply its just easier not having to treat a moving target and then have them shake their heads so the black bits go everywhere and add to those anal gland perma-stains on the ceiling!

Re: Ear flushing Kit

We're not talking about owned kittens with slightly itchy ears but strays with sore ears jammed up with wax and all sorts of sh*te that won't let you clean them conscious.

Re: Ear flushing Kit
I use a video otoscope for scavenging after vigorous flushing especially in the middle ear. at wet labs I have used all of the systems i.e. Welsh Allen, Otopet, and I find that the system that you are using with adapted urinary catheters, 3 way stopcocks, and syringes to be the best, with the most control.

Re: Ear flushing Kit

I used to use some or all of the above mentioned equipment I now use a bottle of Vetruus Otoprof foaming ear cleaner, a couple of cotton buds and a wadge of cotton wool - job done.

Re: Ear flushing Kit

I use a spruells needle http://www.veterinary-instrumentation.co.uk/product.php?productid=2709&cat=0&page=1 and a 5ml syringe.
