She has 4 JRT cross dogs of varying ages 2-12 years all tricolour or black and white and all of them have started developing black or tan hairs

Re: White dogs turning black!

Looks like my JRT - plus she is also getting small spots of black fur in a few places aswell. Had just had a litter before I got her and looks a much nicer shape now than before. (She was still all a bit saggy and lacking muscle).
She's possibly got a bit of food allergy dermatitis/atopy going on but that hasn't got any correlation with the areas of skin pigmentation. Waiting to see if a food change/primrose oil/hypoallergenic shampoo etc will control it for now as its not severe enough to warrant anything else at the moment. Will take another pic when I next clip her and see!

Re: White dogs turning black!

Normal pigmentation, absolutely nothing to worry about! There are also patches along her back, ears, tail, down the back of her legs etc.

I've had a quick google and found a JRT forum where the breeders say its quite normal for them to change colour,

Before - note white nipples

After - one by one they're going black!

Don't know, but had an elderly terrier in for a med check today (preds, but justified in this case) which apparently started off life as a black puppy, became a tricolour adult and since starting steroids 6 months ago, has been regrowing black hair in the tan / white bits. So also looking for suggestions.
