What formulation have you found simplest to use for a cat?
I've not needed to think about this before.

Re: Erythropoietin

Thanks, that's helpful

Re: Erythropoietin

I have done both, I think ideally if costs allow (it is quite expensive) then you would discard excess each time but I have split into doses where costs didn't allow and it still seemed to work. That was erythropoietin rather than darbepoietin though.

Re: Erythropoietin

[quote user="Andrew Kent"]Previously used neorecormon but have moved to darbepoietin now as less likely to develop antibodies to it and can be administered less frequently (0.25-0.5 mcg/kg SC weekly until PCV normal then as needed).

trade name is aranesp, I have got it through supplier as special order or would guess from human pharmacy.

Do you subdivide the supplied quantities into cat-size doses, and store the unused portion, or do you simply discard the unused portion each time?

Re: Erythropoietin

Previously used neorecormon but have moved to darbepoietin now as less likely to develop antibodies to it and can be administered less frequently (0.25-0.5 mcg/kg SC weekly until PCV normal then as needed).

I find that my local pharmacy is very useful at sourcing all kinds of odd medications and they are used to me by now.

Once needed some alprostadil as a poor man's iloprost, so had to write a prescription for our local pharmacist. Trouble is, it comes in two forms: a sponge and an injection. Both for male impotence. The effort of trying to persuade an all-female staff that it really, truly was for a dog has stayed with me in the quiet awake parts of the night ever since.

I find that my local pharmacy is very useful at sourcing all kinds of odd medications and they are used to me by now. Never used it though so can't comment on formulations but again my pharmacist would normally help me with that kind of thing.
