A 5 month old British blue kitten (soooo cute) presented to me yesterday after a 3 week history of reduced appetite, lethargy and failure

Re: 5 month kitten with a poor appetite...

If FIP negative I would second the suggestion to look for intussusseption. Have seen puppies change from chronic skeletons to lively chubby ones with ravenous appetites after surgery!

They have also noted that she seems a bit wobbly on her hindlimbs and no longer always uses the litter tray, where previously she always used it. She has only gained 150g over the past 3 weeks- so weighs in at 1.45kg at 6 months of age!

Bloods were taken to screen for toxoplasma and coronavirus, and will be seen by a small animal internal medicine specialist on Tuesday. Toxoplasma IgG and IgM titres came back as <50 and <20 respectively. The coronavirus came back as >= 10240! Given her age and current health status, would FIP be highly suggestive? I have yet to scan her abdomen as my scanning skills aren't exactly top notch and the specialist is likely to do that on Tuesday.

Re: 5 month kitten with a poor appetite...

FIP is a possibility but I would have expected the globulin to be a lot higher (54 is still in my normal range) whether FCoV titre would be of any use is debatable unless its sky high. Any signs of ulceration orally or cutaneously? - may indicate systemic FCV although that usually is more acute.

Re: 5 month kitten with a poor appetite...

Infectious disease would be at the top of my list, especially in a pedigree. Respiratory viruses and FIP would be most likely.
