[/quote] Yes, sorry if it wasn't clear, I agree that there is little indication for anything but the weight of evidence for any supplement must be for omega3s is all.

There is a little bit of evidence that omega 3s may be useful for arrhythmia and where there is significant weight loss, but as Mr Mills points out, it is likely that this dog has MMVD, so unless it is cachexic, the last time I checked there was no evidence to suggest omega 3s would help. Certainly nothing in the oft-quoted Freeman paper.

In a sentence: do they help? No, but maybe. There's been hardly anything done on the role of q10 in canine models. The study that Mr Geddes points to used very low numbers, and used a model of heart failure that is not related to MMVD dogs (which I assume the CKCS is). There is more evidence in human studies but its a large extrapolation to make to recommend it to a client.

If the owner wants to do something, then there is far more evidence for the use of omega-3 fatty acids. There's a very good overview of these here which you can access if you're a BSAVA member:
