Swelling on hock.

Having the week from hell so they say a problem shared is a problem halved (or is it doubled?).
A four year old Golden Retriever with a very hard mass on the medial aspect of its left hock. Noticed a couple of months ago but not changing dramatically

Re: One of my problem cases!
Avulsion fracture or similar would be my first guess. Is there any instability (eg stressed view)? Just another thought given it's quite a young dog - osteochondritis dissecans? Having read your other thread, I hope tomorrow's a better day - one day nearer the weekend (hopefully not one on call)

Thanks!

It genuinely has been the week from hell! Can't say the takings have gone up that much to compensate!

Re: One of my problem cases!
Collateral ligament injury (old) with the bony element being either a fragment pulled off when injury occurred or calcification within the ligament? Can I have a prize if I am right?

[/quote]

Not sure if you are right but that is what I have told the owners so hopefully at least one of my patients will see the weekend!

I have made it clear to everyone that I am not planning to see any more ill animals until early next week at the earliest. Vaccinations and anal glands with occasional bad ears only please.

Re: One of my problem cases!
