I started the dog on ectodex (50mg/ml Amitraz) washes and weekly dectomax injections.
Dunno but I've had little or no success treating demodex with Advocate. Even a case I managed to stabilize on oral avermectins relapsed once the oral meds were stopped and Advocate introduced. Next time I don't think I'd even try using Advocate, I'd be reaching for the Panomec before anything else.

When I have used it it seems to have either failed totally to help or had only marginal improvement.

Have used it AFTER successful treatment with amitraz when they got a few scabs back

In NZ I used it initially at 50mcg/Kg building up by 50 daily to 2-400 mcg/Kg

Re: Demodex

Many years ago we used to use injectable ivermectin on dogs with demodicosis to great effect, although some would recur after cessation of treatment. I've used Promeris in 1 puppy (so not a chronically affected case) with great success though. If it were chronically affected and wasn't responding to amitraz (or I couldn't get hold of any) I'd probably head towards ivermectin orally but give a low dose to start with to check for toxicity.

Re: Demodex

Hi

Ivermectin orally can be very effective at 200-400mcg/kg daily, and is well toerated in most dogs. However as an unlicensed medicine where the commonest side effect (albeit very rare) is death, we should be cautious in its use unless all other options have been tried. I have also had little or no success with Advocate for demodicosis, likewise with Promeris duo.
