Does anyone use Baermann testing in house for Lungworm? If or if not - does anyone know if 'testing kits' can be bought anywhere or is it more a question of getting all the required bits and pieces and DIY-ing it? Does anyone do fecal floats

Re: Baermann Testing

I don't bother with faecal eggcounts but do flottation on farm. Takes a few minutes to set up, do the visit and have a look at the end of the visit. (My field microscope has survived 30 years and 1000nds of miles on rough roads). Immediate result in a few minutes. Only for nematodes and coccidiosis though, not for flukes.

If or if not - does anyone know if 'testing kits' can be bought anywhere or is it more a question of getting all the required bits and pieces and DIY-ing it? Does anyone do fecal floats in-house to test for internal parasites?

Just wondering,

thanks :)

Hi

You can DIY it - a funnel some filters rubber bands and patience ;)

We use it only to look for Angiostrongylus larvae..which may be intermittently excreted like Wynne pointed out. Simple to do really.
