He was also bringing up mouthfuls of clear fluid, almost burping it out. Treated with antepsin, Zantac, cerenia and iv fluids. Steadily improved and fine after about 5d, for which I was immensely happy. Owner was a nightmare - continually shouting about how this was all our fault, she would sue, refusing to pay etc etc. The dog was castrated under dogs trust scheme. Happy days.

I assumed ours was a post- op oesophagitis due to reflux or even poss an effect of the single dose of carprieve. The owner did let slip that the dog had always 'brought food up after eating' and I did wonder about an underlying megaoe. Didn't get to investigate though.

Re: Post Operative GI problems in a 6yo SBT

I was thinking oesophagitis too as this sounds like regurg. This can lead to reduced oesophageal motility. Was there any sign of him regurgitating during surgery? The other option is post op pancreatitis - somewhat under recognized IMHO but this is not presenting completely like a pancreatitis case.

I am suspicious of reduced GI motility too based on your rads which fits better with pancreatitis.

You could scope him to confirm oesophagitis or put him on antepsin (dissolved tabs) TID and omeprazole (>1 mg/kg as minimum) for 2-3 weeks.

Hope he gets better soon

First thing I thought was reflux oesophagitis - sounds more like regurgitation than vomiting. ? add sucralfate aswell

Re: Post Operative GI problems in a 6yo SBT

Gastric irritation from carprofen?
