Info i have found all uses piroxicam, but i have heard lots of anecdotal

Re: Mammary carcinoma

Apparently Palladia from Pfizer has effect on mammary tumours, no personal experience but maybe worth asking your rep

Re: Mammary carcinoma
piroxicam vs meloxicam
I'm not sure there's any literature to compare the two, and the latter is licensed and easier to dose for varying sized animals.

Re: Mammary carcinoma

My impression is that more research has been done on piroxicam so this is normally used first, but there is theoretically no difference in effectiveness.

My personal preference is Doxorubicin with a NSAID - my choice of NSAID will depend on dog size as meloxicam is easier to dose in smaller dogs, while piroxicam is a lot cheaper in large dogs. The alternative would be to use Doxorubicin and Carboplatin alternating, or you could also consider doxorubicin with 5-FU or cyclophosphamide. a whole range of options really, but doxorubicin has been show to be the most effective.

Normally I will only with the NSAID as a stand alone treatment for those who caon't afford chemotherapy.

Re: Mammary carcinoma

I had a similar one about 18 months ago, anaplastic carcinoma with evidence of spread tolymph nodes, which were removed at initial surgery, and not fully clear margins. Chest clear. Put on metronomic chemo, daily meloxicam, every other day leukeran and daily doxycycline. So far she is fine, and may well be ok without the meds now but the owner is unwilling to stop just in case!

Btw I did get advice on the therapy from an oncologist.

Re: Mammary carcinoma

Hey mate, back in NZ now, have been back for a year, just bought house so getting quite settled. What you up to?

I would have thought doxy much more effective also, but am concerned that given the degree of malignancy the horse may have bolted already, so is there any point? Is everything going to be palliative regardless of protocol? Have chest rads that are all clear at present, am doing a full strip and aspirate LN's tomorrow.

Re: Mammary carcinoma

Hey Charlie!

Where you at now? In response I've heard of metacam being used anecdotally too, someone is bound o chip in with papers, or a pubmed search may reveal some too. I don't think it'd be anywhere near the efficacy of doxy though.

If you're in the UK, the VRCC are an excellent oncology centre and worth contacting too.
