Whoops, sorry, got confused with the TLAs.

It's core biopsies we seem to have trouble with.

What spring loaded brand do you use [and size etc. [please]
Cook's used to do 'em, I haven't done one for ages now so I can't remember sizes, but I always used ultrasound for guidance.

This is the same sort of thing: http://www.surgivet.com/catalog/critical-care/needles/vet-core-biopsy-needles.html
They are hellish expensive, though, or used to be - around £25 a pop - for that price you have to be sure you're hitting the right spot. A stab incision with a scalpel through the skin then a good shove normally does the trick. US guide essential.

Re: Help needed regarding FNA techniques
Why the number of full time vets? - which is a bit of a daft question if it's being used to assess practice size and you work in a practice which mainly employs part timers - or does it mean "full time vet equivalents"? What is meant by "new case" - does it mean ill animals or all animals seen including vaccinations, clip claws, neutering? Didn't understand this question "If you elect to proceed with investigation, how often do you perform an FNA in the first instance" - surely if you elect to do an FNA, you would do it unless you just forget on the way to get the syringe. What if you use different gauge needles depending on the lump? What if you use suction for some FNAs and not others - I use suction for most solid masses, but not for lymph nodes.

Sorry, not my intention to be harsh, but I have quite a dislike of questionnaires where I am struggling, and failing, to fit my answers to the questions. If I want to answer A and B but only have the option to answer A or B, then my answer is 50% wrong whichever I choose. Maybe I just think too much Bad day.

Re: Help needed regarding FNA techniques

We've tried all sorts of kit and nothing seems able to get liver cells, in our hands. [lots of muscle though]

I've filled it in. I bet the practitioners using a 19G needle and a 50ml syringe get a lot of cells........
