He ended up with a gastric dilatation ( no volvulus). The owners declined surgery, so I just decompressed him with a large bore stomach tube and kept him in for a few days on iv fluids. I saw him 1 week later for a check up and the owners said that he had passed a 7'2" "rope"of tablecloth ( which they hadn't realised he had eaten), stones and cling film. I managed to keep a straight face until the female owner confessed that at the end of the "rope" was a pair of her knickers! Apparently they were standing behind him with a measuring tape as he produced it.

Re: One of those phonecalls

We used to have a retriever in the practice who was a regular pantie eater. Pretty much a fetishist as the owner was careful after the first few goes. He would get them from the washing bin and break into the bathroom while the owner was in the shower. They all came out the way nature intended but could take up to a week. I favour bulk laxatives like fybagel rather than liquid paraffin to encourage such things through.
