A friend of mine has a hen who looked like she had scaly leg a few weeks ago which she treated by covering the legs with cooking oil every two days. After a week, all the scabs fell off and she looked perfectly healthy and sound. Now she is

Re: lame hen, scaly leg
That's actually a good thing for the bird vet!
We develop thick skin and are used to our patients dieing suddenly. I keep telling people we only do miracles on Friday's but they do insist on coming in on other days. I don't count the ones that are already dead though. Some people must have a truly terrible sense of smell.

Belated thank you for all of the replies. Didn't get the chance to try frontline in the end because the hen died, (the day before she was booked in for a consultation with a bird vet).

We used to use WD40 on our chickens and it seemed to work!
Was that for 'Squeaky leg' or 'Scaley leg' ?

Just to get this straight - is the chicken alive or cooking?
She is still eating, drinking and laying
I'm assuming this is the chicken rather than the friend

I used Xeno drops on my neighbour's pet chicken and that seemed to clear it (although it was very crusty and a couple of toe tips dropped off as I tried to examine it )
