I've got it booked in tomorrow for a GA to sort it out. Just wondered if Mark or any of the other exotics people have any tips?
The owner says it has been like this for a couple of weeks

Re: hypopyon in a snake

If the globe was completely full of puss and bulging as this looked then I may well remove it, if the client didn't want referal. Not for a case of hypopyon with some bits of puss in the aqueous.
That's what I hoped you meant. I just get twitchy about unnecessary eye removal so apologise if any offence given.

Catherine - sounds like you've helped it. Follow up would be great to hear.

Re: hypopyon in a snake

Thanks. We've just finished with her now. It was a subspectacular abscess so I cut a window in the spectacle and flushed it out. It still looks very thickened and I can't really see the globe fully but hopefully with some antibiotics it will clear up.

Re: hypopyon in a snake
Michael - hope the comment about removing eyes with hypopyon was tongue in cheek.
Differentials for this are

1. Retained spectacle post shedding

2. Sub spectacular abscess

3. Blockage of the nasolacrimal duct

4. Uveitis

Sub spectacular abscess would be most likely but I cannot tell from the photos to be in any way certain

Treatment is excision of a wedge of spectacle ventrally and saline flushing

Michael - hope the comment about removing eyes with hypopyon was tongue in cheek. We can do a bit more than that now ;)

Both guys who came in with it were dressed a little unusually, the black nails belong to the other owner. But I don't care what they look like, they seem to be very dedicated snake owners and thats what matters.

Re: hypopyon in a snake

Is the client in Halloween costume?

Can't help with the snake. Looks more like an abscess than hypopyon IMO. Any cases of hypopyon I have seen have always had clear fluid too. Snakes may get it like that.

In a pet I'd probably remove the globe.

It's the client in the second picture that intrigues me.
