my cat in Italy unfortunately is not well. She has a mass about 8 cm
diameter in abdomen. I'm posting here the pictures of the FNAB that has
been done there. Could you give me your opinion, please? When it's about
our own animals, it

Re: Own cat Cytology

Hi guys,

thanks for your replies, many thanks Rajat for your kind words.

Tomorrow she will have an ex-lap, and I hope everything will be ok. My regret is that I can't be there to operate myself. It happened quite suddenly.

Anyway fingers crossed for her (Trottola)!

If it was my cat, I'd go in and remove said lump. Have a good luck around and send the whole lump away for histo.

As you know it is not good news.

While I agree with Kate that we should send it to a good pathologist, we are trained in basic cytology so we can maybe start to make some inferences about the nature of what it is .

I see cells several times the size of RBCs with abundant basophilic cytoplasm in parts, the nuclei are large and fusoid/spindle shaped and there are hints of multiple nucleoli. In the third image there appears to be a mononuclear cell with three nuclei (poss a degenrate neut as it is the right size for this more or less)

I think a malignant tumour is high up on the list and I'm not good enough to say what kind of tissues of origin, mesenchymal cell would be my guess, but it could be something totally different and we need a good cytopathologist for this.

Any chance the slides can be sent over to the UK? I'd recommend Chris Belford at Cytopath. Very helpful on the phone too.

Bets of luck and sorry again about yr cat
