I have had to certify that a parrot is dead and produce a letter so the client can claim on her insurance.
A farmer rang the RSPB to say he'd just seen a cuckoo that day, 7th December.

The RSPB expert said that was impossible; the farmer was mistaken; all the cuckoos had migrated south by the end of October.

Some days later a smelly shoe-box arrived at the RSPB headquarters containing a dead cuckoo and a note which read:

"I know a cuckoo when I see one"

Re: And now for something completely different.

I think you need the practice Labrador to come in and sniff it, then the practice cat, if they don't take any interest then you know it is dead and can charge the owner for a lab test and CAT scan.

Re: And now for something completely different.

I'll gladly give you a second opinion for your letter, at the right price of course. I have done quite a few of these letters but I always insist on seeing the body. Someone wanted me to do a letter for this when they had already buried the body! I politely refused. It is not quite as bad as the tortoise which hasn't moved for a week and smells so bad that even I think about gagging. Apparently there is a Norwegian Blue Tortoise....

Yes it is true, but of course I couldn't include the F word in a professional letter.

Not 100% sure no, but I could not elicit any form of response or reflex, and the owners did say it went for a particularly long squawk about 3 days ago

No, I'm as sure as I can be that it has passed on.
