I've just admitted a Pixie Bobtail OOH, it has a hx of fighting so offered FIV/FeLV testing- o declined (grr) and I got this story about leukaemia vacc killing this breed - curiosity lead me to search here!! Dr Google repeats this claim on many breeders websites - although I did also find a few debunking it. And a few claiming that they 'cannot' get it anyway.

Really, where do these ideas come from???!!!??

I've got a horrible feeling that in a few years the health problems of pedigree cats will be as bad as in pedigree dogs-they already are in some breeds

Looking at those adverts - you'll get brownie points if you call it a cub rather than a mere kitten..

Exactly my thoughts. 2 queens, 3-4 litters per year, even if just 4 kittens sold per litter that's 12-16 kittens sold per year which makes 16,000-20,000 at the upper end of that price range.

If you see the website, they have other pedigrees too - wouldn't be surprising if there was more breeding going on - one could live quite comfortably selling these pedigrees and not working at all.

[/quote] Although our local RSPCA home refused a client of ours who wanted to take on a cat, because she had ragwort in her (semi rural) large garden grass! Sorry, but sometimes rescue centres can be a little too fussy. She would be a great owner, and is likely to take a little cat that is with us for rehoming.

Neither had I, but was alarmed to see that extra toes are considered desirable .

Never heard of a 'Pixie Bobtail' - but I'd have guessed it was one of Bob Geldof's children.

Pedigree breeders are mean and therefore manufacture spurious reasons to "explain" their failure to fully vaccinate to unsuspecting gullible buyers

We used to have a pixie bobtail breeder in my old practice. Vaccinated as normal all litters with no problems.

In my experience every bleeding breeder likes to tell every owner of posh cats that their German Bobcat Pixiepuff Panda Claw hybrid explodes just looking at a leukaemia vaccine bottle. So far it has yet to be the case and I no longer even dive for cover!

It's just a cat. Treat it as such.

(tell the owner you checked the data sheet and with your particular leukaemia vaccine there are no contraindications in Pixie Bobtails)

Hell, you could even check it for real.............
