It is fair enough, he might have been doping but was still competing on a level playing field.

[/quote] I'm sorry you had to hijack this thread and I was going to ignore the Troll but as others have not I feel compelled to reply, even though its already been said. Whilst I do not condone doping, His Lanceness was a product of his time, it is ridiculous to strip him of his TDF titles if all the others who cheated are not stripped of theirs i.e. everyone with the probable exception of Wiggo this year and Cadel Evans last. Of the other 14 podium positions in the 7 Tours he won only one was taken by someone who has not been already found guilty of doping or has been implicated in doping investigations. Armstrong recovered from near fatal cancer and whatever he achieved after that is amazing whether or not he had a little pharmaceutical help. He was competing against others who did the same and he remains my hero, we won't even go to the money he's raised for charity and way he raised the profile of cycle racing from a Cinderella sport to mainstream. And don't think that other sports are any cleaner, they are not, they just hide their heads in the sand, whatever you think of cycling and Armstrong at least cycling is doing something about it. The signature remains because it is a truism whoever spoke it. What galls me is the how all the companies who have made a fortune through sponsoring him when he was winning, even though they were aware of accusations against him for year, have now jumped ship like so many rats now they think their image will be tarnished, the hypocrisy of it stinks. Can we leave it here and go back to what was a relevant thread.

They come in a kit with instructions a skin punch and a few access needles, additional access needles are available from the same source. They can be put in with sedation and local anaesthetic. Sadly most cases I've seen have arrived in last stage CKD and only lasted a few weeks but they wouldn't have lasted 2 days without the additional fluids and of course the owner can do it at home. Opinion varied some thought it worthwhile others didn't . However we had one cat that another vet advised PTS (BUN in the 40's, Crea 3-400) but we fitted a skin button and it lasted over 3 months of good quality life. It depends to a large extent on the nature of the cat and the dedication of the owner but with the right combination I'd give it a go. The only complication I had was that the 3 month cat developed 'pockets' of subcutaneous fibrous tissue which limited the amount of fluid that could be injected at a time. Don't know if this is a common problem, there are reports from the USA of cats receiving fluids via a skin button for a year or more.

Re: sub cut fluids in cats

You could look at catprofessional.com, Dr Sarah Caneys website, it has a lot of info of managing renal cases.

Mila do make a nice 'button' and other companies make SQ caths, I've used ones from cook's/arnolds and surgivet- but these may or may not be available now.

A word of caution- many people have found infection related issues- we had one cat with indwelling SQ cath that developed sepsis and died. I know some ppl who have used them frequently in the past are shying away from them. I always encourage owners to give SQFT a try with a needle/butterfly cath first and if the cat/owners cant do it, and a 'button'/SQ cath is the only option then so be it..but definitely worth trying without it first, IMHO...

Easy for the clients to use.
