Data sheet (2.5% oral solution) states 5mg/kg BID diluted in water
BSAVA formulary states 10-30mg/kg SID PO/SC/IV
Mark I too like Septrin for rabbits, the difference in spectrum is that fluroquinolones doesn't kill anaerobes, a fact some may forget esp while treating rabbit abscesses, septrin or metronidazole are far better choices (along with all the topical and surgical therapy required).

Absolutely. I was just giving you a reason why you would need to justify using something other than baytril
I have always REALLY worried about my rabbits being infected with Streps
You need a holiday then - too much worrying!

Re: Baytril dose in rabbits

Administration is a perfectly justified clinical reason.

You are suggesting using a dose upto 6x the licensed dose rate. Pot and er whats that thing you use to boil water?

Edit: I wanted to check a detail. I was advised that Baytril is ineffective against Streptococcal infections, Co-trim is effective against Strep infections and Rabbits get Strep infections. I am waiting for Bayer to clear up that first point but I have always REALLY worried about my rabbits being infected with Streps

Re: Baytril dose in rabbits

erm.....the cascade......

Re: Baytril dose in rabbits

I have tended to use paediatric septrin rather than Baytril as I find it better accepted, is the spectrum sufficiently different that Baytril is substantially better?
this is mainly for the po route - it tastes horrid so may improve the likelihood of it being swallowed if it is diluted!! The injection can also be quite irritant.

or so I believe, but am happy to be corrected...!!!
