Would this practice not enhance the chance of getting NSAIDs side effects? The last time I spoke to a drugs company about it they were of the opinion that concurrent use of 2 NSAIDs was no different than a double dose of one. Given that side effects seem to be idiosyncratic and dogs ate usually tested to many multiples of the normal dose for many days/ weeks I am much less worried

Re: Meloxicam intra-op injection followed by Carprofen tabs

[quote user="Moonlightsilvia"]Decreased mucous production and increased/easier acid corrosion of the mucosae perhaps?
Did anyone bother to offer an explanation why changing from one drug to another would make the side effects more likely? Did any of these lecturers actually know? Maybe it's a myth, like "opioids send cats manic" as we were taught? I'm just trying to get you to question vet school dogma.

Personally I'm quite happy to do it the other way round, use carprofen peri- or post-operatively and follow with oral meloxicam at home.

Re: Meloxicam intra-op injection followed by Carprofen tabs

Decreased mucous production and increased/easier acid corrosion of the mucosae perhaps?
