Do they do ok? Is there any preparation to help them with the process of travelling or medications used? I can handle the export side of things, but not sure on the stress caused or possibility

Re: Rabbit to Hong Kong

[quote user="James Laidlaw"]Cheers Tim, much appreciated.

Glad to have been able to help. If you are in the vicinity of Heathrow it is worth contacting HARC, explaining that you are a vet and asking if you can visit. I was invited to do so several years ago and was amazed at the variety of species passing through, mostly legitimate but some seized. The staff were enthusiastic, dedicated, caring and knowledgeable. It was an interesting experience.

Major airlines take pride in handling the animals well and will usually load them before the disturbing noisy activity of loading passengers and other cargo. Medications are best avoided. There is quite a deal of advice on the IATA website on what to provide for animals in transit and you could (and probably still can) obtain advice on the transport of many species from the Quarantine Station at Heathrow; it used to be in Beacon Road close to Terminal Four. I have sent and received many animals by air, horses, cattle, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, mice and (yes) rabbits, and the only one lost was a cow with acute milk fever that died unnoticed during the half-hour road journey from the airport to the farm! Good luck.
