They state a standard price and I assume the 'minimum' price is the figure to do the 'standard' procedure if you book far enough ahead. I have no issues with offering a minimum price or a guide price, both can be useful for clients.

I struggle to see the viability of a g/a scale and polish done well for fifty odd quid let alone offering a discount! I am sure they have done their maths so I won't lie awake worrying about their business!

The prices advertised are as above. Nothing more. No mention of separate G/A fees. On-line just means you register on-line and book a slot on a quiet day some time ahead. That is a good idea!

A bit like airline fares. Book ahead get buy the cheap tickets, wait and pay the full whack!

Whatever price is quoted, owners will think it expensive!

What is the exact meaning of an "online minimum price"? I can't imagine these being tenable if they include a GA, although the last place I was at a cat dental and GA was only £80 - and clients still thought that was far too expensive!!!

All of which could be applied to any human behaviour. You are being unfair to persecute the member of one profession when similar things would apply to many in our own. Nobody owns a practice or altuistic reasons. Mind you I don't feel that Pynadath needs my defense, he has demonstrated a remarkable ability in that regards himself

Again total agreement with Rajat I think the reason your friends in the USA can charge realistic prices is they still seem cheap when compared to human medical/dental fees We have the problem of the NHS

The folks on VIN tend to bite your head off if you say 'dental'. I can kinda see why. They prefer the term COHAT (Comprehensive Oral Health Assesment and Treatment) to reflect more accurately what it is we do when we book a 'dental.

I could not agree more !

The best is when owners proudly tell you they have had their dogs teeth 'cleaned' three times in the last year. Conscious. by a groomer./vet hygienist And when one points out the fact that pathology really exists below the gumline where no 'vet hygienist' dare go in a conscious dog, and if they had just spent what they spent in those 3 sessions + an extra £60-100 for a proper *dental* the dog would not have inflamed gums and awful halitosis and discharge from its perio disease regions they are really not happy.

My friend's recently set up a hospital (in USA) and they charge more than we do (for dental procedures whether extractions or scale and polish), in a less affluent area, but provide a great service- pre and post scaling pictures, gingivitis and perio grades for all teeth, electronic records, colour printouts of dental charts with each tooth's health detailed and pre and post-op pictures, radiographs of teeth included everytime and excellent dental-ly educated vet techs means the clients are much more on board. Also I think people in the states are more concerned about teeth (their own and their dogs!) in general than we are in the UK!
