You can get tramadol liquid drops (100mg/ml) - though I've not tried them in cats myself

Re: Ramipril liquid in cats

Yeah, even as a locum I have an account with SVP as I find it easier to get small tramadol and amlodipine that way. I can order them, and the practice just pays me back as expenses: I don't really care about who gets the mark-up, it's just less stress for me to be able to give small dogs and cats tramadol when I need to.

They're also about to bring out methimazole transdermal gel, which should be worth a discussion in its own right.

Have ordered the prilium as a back-up to the crushed fortekor which is unlikely to work

Re: Ramipril liquid in cats

Who is your wholesaler? Can't speak for others but NVS have a specials department that can get virtually anything and usually costs less than a pharmacy and Amlodypine is available from Summit Pharmaceuticals in 0.625 mg and 0.3125 mg tablets but they are quite expensive dose for dose compared with generic 5mg tabs.

Re: Ramipril liquid in cats

Many thanks, Martin

I was, to be honest, hoping that generic ramipril would work out a d*mn sight cheaper; unfortunately, a quick trip to Boots scotched that, so back to the cascade we go and prilium will do the job. Wild cat, determined rescue individuals but limited funds - you know how it goes.

The rolling in butter trick is what we do with rats (peanut butter often works well, mixed with cornflower) for correct dosing, so we'll cobble something up; incidentally, I also thought I could get generic amlodipine liquid at dirt-cheap prices, seeing as the tablets aren't pricy, but the costs started at a hundred and eighty quid

This cat needs to start meeting us half-way, I think.

Re: Ramipril liquid in cats

What are you wanting the Ramipril for: as an anti hypertensive or control of the renal failure? I have use Prilium liquid in cats for the latter in place of Fortekor which the cat would not take, it is given at double dog dose. One of my nurses devised a cunning way of getting amlodypine down her cat when it was hypertensive by thoroughly crushing the tablet in a knob of butter, rolling it onto a erm....roll and dividing into dose sized portions then freezing it, The butter portions could then be melted and put straight on the food or stuck to the cats fur whereupon it would lick it off.
