Interesting - any idea what it cost - and how wide -ranging the analysis was ?

Clients do sometimes ask about screening for 'poisons' - and I have to confess that I was not aware that it was readily available.

[/quote]

IDEXX do a general toxicology, which they send off to a lab in America where there are various drugs they test for - if you contact their customer services they'll direct you to the website which shows what they test for. Cost to a vet is £88.70.

A quick google search shows that ecstasy and amphetamines are often cut with theobromine and caffeine... and fake ecstasy pills are just pure caffeine. Evidence enough?

Mass spectral analysis detected theobromine and caffeine. Their conclusion: the dog 'has been exposed to chocolate'.

You'd need to run a positive and negative control to be sure............

Did you get to speak to the lab people in the hospital. My mother is a biochemist and they do some in house and send some away. Getting the results should be easy on this little island of ours.
