The poor ewe involved is getting rather bald and rather pi**ed off I'm told. I'll be seeing it tomorrow with any luck so will post with more info then.

I can remember that when I worked in your part of the world, farm clients would worry about too much sulpher - because of all the power stations nearby.

Almost certain mineral deficiency/deficiencies: the apocryphal tales of goats eating tin cans largely stem from devouring the labels for the salt in the glue.

Bung down a general purpose lick - if on a diet, avoid the molassed version. If the goat attacks it, probably on the right track.

Sounds perfectly sensible advice to me!

Agreed - although it's obviously not the same anon who's been throwing mud lately.

I do know of one colleague who preferred to log in under the anon account, as he didn't want to have to register his details and just wanted the resources. Once it was pointed out, though, that it would be difficult to count as CPD unless he used his own account, he registered PDQ.

Re: Hungry goat

[quote user="Hannah Wynne Richards"]

Only 1 way to diagnose any deficiency-blood test-though I'm not sure exactly what you'd test for with sulphur

Could just be normal goat-I mean they will eat anything

Certainly could do some blood tests but as you say I'm not sure exactly what I'd test for (other than basic trace element profiles). It'll be interesting to see the animals tomorrow. I can't bring myself to think this is normal in these animals as they have been kept with these sheep for quite some time and as such if it was normal I'd have expected to see it before now. Thanks for the thoughts though Wynne.

Re: Hungry goat

That's basically what I was thinking. Always good to see people thinking the same as I was. Thanks Bob and anon.

Re: Hungry goat

[quote user="An On MRCVS"]
