Interestingly I've used it on myself when I had Giardia. The choice was 800mg three times daily for 5 days or a mega-dose of 2gm which equated to 12 tablets once daily for 3 days. I was due to go on a skiing holiday 3 days after the course started, now we know that alcohol doesn't go well with metronidazole and skiing holidays involve compulsory imbibing of a lot of the amber nectar so it was really a no-brainer. The problem was stuffing 12 horrible dry tablets that stick in your gullet down in one go - it involved a lot of gagging and large volumes of water! Still it cured the squits and I enjoyed my ski trip so it was worth it. Can't say I've tried it in an animal but the limitation may getting the dose down it if it is pro-rata.

Not heard of that I'm afraid - I just tend to use 15-25mg/kg BID (dog dose). Maybe someone else will be able to shed light on it.....?
