1st case: (thought to be 4 year old) rabbit with 'rattly' chest. no nasal discharge, no sneezing, front paws clean. has had systemic antibiotics, which don't

Re: Rabbit nebulisation and other
I recommend to use a pink syringe for the injection, I know it sounds barbarous but it is very thick product!
Seems a bit harsh - I've met some quite intelligent Penicillin in my time .

Re: Rabbit nebulisation and other

Thanks to you all for the replies so far. I have used Depocillin in bunnies before, just wasn't too sure if it would be ok in such young bunnies.

Re the nebulising with F10 - which F10 product do you use and at what dilution? And how much Bisolvin do you add to the mix, literally a pinch? Does anybody ever use Batryil for nebulisation and if so, is it the injectable? The only 'dose' I could find was 1ml Baytril per 10ml saline. Is that correct?

Have a good day ya all :)

Re: Rabbit nebulisation and other

I'm another fan of depocillin in rabbits, although using penicillin does seem to fly in the face of what we are told!! I would definitely use it for the gunky eyes.

With the rattly chest I might add in an NSAID too

Re: Rabbit nebulisation and other
I recommend to use a pink syringe for the injection, I know it sounds barbarous but it is very thick product!
We use nebulisation a lot in my practice, and we nebulise more or less anything from rats, chicken to cats. I normally use a mix of diluted F10 and bisolvon in the nebuliser for 10-15min. We do see good results with it!

I used a lot of the Depocillin injection in rabbits with good results, especially for abscesses! I inject once a week at the dose indicated in the small animal formulary. I recommend to use a pink syringe for the injection, I know it sounds barbarous but it is very thick product!

Hope that can help

Re: Rabbit nebulisation and other

Bacterial infections in rabbits often C pyogenes-and the babies certainly sound like it Some people think penicillins in rabbits are lethal-and they're definitely totally forbidden orally, but my RVN went on a cpd course on advanced rabbit nursing which was given by Romain Pizzi and he advised that depocillin at 50mg/kg/48hrs was perfectly safe even if given for several months
