I've taken over a diabetic dog in my new job, not actually set eyes on it yet but the owner phoned me for some advice as felt dog not doing very well - it never seemed to have had a BG curve so came in for a curve yesterday although I was another

Re: Diabetic nightmare
I am wondering what would be happening in those 2 hours between 7.2 and 25.1 mmol/l.
Thirded. Try and get hold of some Caninsulin feedback forms. Have used these with an awkward diabetic dog I had which was doing similar things - you fill in the case details, attach glucose curves/bloods etc and fax to MSD. They then phone you (within hours in my case) to discuss and advise. I would also go back to 0.25IU/kg. Ps. might be worth a general blood profile to check for concurrent disease - mine had a thyroid carcinoma!

Re: Diabetic nightmare

Just pretend its just been diagnosed and start again - client ed. and all

Re: Diabetic nightmare

Thanks, glad my suspicions may be right! We didn't find out until he went home that he had a lunchtime meal, as far as his records previously said he'd gone from QID back to BID and the owner didn't mention it in the morning (owner was not very forthcoming with this info as she feels 'guilty' for feeding him at lunchtime when told to feed BID...).

Re: Diabetic nightmare
feeding then every 2 hours over day (not fed lunchtime meal)
Why? Surely that's making interpretation difficult for yourself...

I'd be tempted to start back at the beginning but on 0.25iu BID (this is what I always use as a starting dose).

Re: Diabetic nightmare
I am wondering what would be happening in those 2 hours between 7.2 and 25.1 mmol/l.
