I've recently heard about use of this steroid called Budesonide for IBD, anti-inflammatory and immunosuppresion from a colleague.
Was wondering if anyone has used it and can elighten me with its dose, efficacy and side-effects and if it

Re: Budesonide - does anyone use it?

One of my dogs developed acute severe IBD and PLE. She had some improvement on preds but then developed marked side effects (steroid myopathy, hepatomeggaly etc), so was switched to budesonide in combination with chlorambucil, but failed to respond to that (or the ciclopsporin tried afterwards) - but she was a very severe case. As far as I understand the main benefit of budesonide is that it is virtually all metabolised in a first pass through the liver - so the effects are only in the gut, rather than systemic, therefore reduced risk of side effects. Can't remember the dose sorry.
