Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 3 yrs old presented with "out of the blue" epileptiform fits.
No. I've never done that as far as I can remember..

I'm pleased to say the dog is now pretty well normal and we will try again sending him home.

Yes, there's salivation and urination and the individual fits are quite short - the one's I've observed about a minute - but such severity right from the start had me doubting the diagnosis.

The owners are in classic distressed confused state. Trawling the internet and Mr. is asking when we can get a CT scan while Mrs. is talking of euthanasia. Bless 'em they mean well. We compromised on my plan of keeping the dog in hospital until 100% recovered.

Re: Fitting CKCS

Given the age of onset it would seem most likely to be idiopathic epilepsy. Are the seizures short in duration? Are autonomic signs e.g. salivation, urination etc involved?

The loss of memory sounds post ictal and is likely to get better within 24-48 hours of the last seizure.

Syringomyelia wouldn't cause seizures. It literally means 'fluid on the spinal cord' so signs usually relate to cervical spinal cord disease as opposed to brain disease.
