I'm starting to see more and more chickens with egg peritonitis.I've tried draining and Suprelorin implants with limited success. Does anyone have a technique for oviduct removal that could be done in general practice?
These cases have a guarded to poor prognosis, If finances allow, salpingectomy is often necessary as there is often a large inspissated egg filled uterus. Shown is one I did last week.

Otherwise celomic lavage UGA + an implant with some broad spectrum abs and NSAIDS are indicated. What really makes these birds feel better is removal of the celomic exudate so a ga for this procedure allows you to flush out inspissated egg clots and check for other pathology (e.g. viral neoplasia). You need to ventilate these guys for the procedure as the viscera will compress the air sacs.

Exteriorise the distended salpynx, Tie or use clips for the vessels. Amputate as far cranially and caudally as possible. Plenty of analgesia and post op fluids are usually required. This one came out nicely with normal portions cranial and caudal to the distended portion.
