Bioflow magnetic collars - any good?

I think they are one of these things that go in and out of fashion over the years. We were shown adverts from 19th century newspapers with ads for magnetic collars and treatment for all sorts of things. Does that make it more or less likely that it has any effect? Don't know, but I'm happier relyinng on NSAIDs for now.

Answer We don't know I would never sell one,any more than I would sell homeopathy but as long as owners also use conventional therapy I won't shout at them that it's useless The problem is the one's who only receive these collars and we never see-and whose owners delude themselves into thinking that these collars are all that's necessary It's possible they may help-but no proof

Hang it from your rear view mirror, probably helps with peripheral vision! :)

(Although to be fair I had a colleague who believed it helped his arthritis as well. If he felt better, who was I to tell him he shouldn't feel better? :shrug: )

My old boss swore by his magnetic bracelet for his arthritis so much that he put one on the fuel pipe of his car to improve fuel efficiency! Hmmm.

I actually have a vet friend who is convinced that the magnetic bracelet he wears helps his arthritis. He is (apparently) sane in every other respect. The power of placebo.

I had a slightly dotty client who wore a magnetic collar round her neck. She gave me a wrist band for my horribly arthritic wrists, which I wore for a while to humour her. Unfortunately it didn't seem to help.

The biggest 'side effect' from pseudomedicines is that people will sometimes stop real medicines in favour of quackery while at the same time convincing themselves there is an improvement. The capacity of the human mind to fool itself should never be underestimated, unfortunately in the veterinary world the animal doesn't get to express an opinion.

My Dad used one on his dog several years ago and swore it made a difference.... I remain sceptical, particularly as the information provided with the collars is full of pseudoscientific b****cks. I do have several clients who use them and many feel they help..... I can't see that they are likely to do any harm, as long as using them doesn't prevent the owner from agreeing to use conventional treatments if necessary.
